809 Project
809 Project
809 Project is an annual cross-genre arts festival in NYC that will be hosted during Dominican Republic's Carnival.

The festival is held to celebrate the growing Dominican community in NYC and help raise awareness & funds for issues that affect the Dominican Community.

This will be the inaugural festival and features performances by Jeyzeus, Wooshey Wooj, BLASS 89, The Drew Torres Trio, Nameless 516, Justin Melendez, E=Kwal, and Black Angel.

Genres include: hip hop, spoken word, poetry, acoustic, and soul.

This year's cause: Dominican Republic produces one of the lowest educational outcomes in all of Latin America. Low educational outcomes almost always lead to a situation where the country in question is ripe for crime, abuse of power and corruption. This is evidenced by Dominican republic's high crime rates and scoring a 31/100 on the corruption perception index, a yearly index prepared by Transparency International - a global watchdog against governmental corruption.

This year's festival aims to raise money and awareness for The DREAM Project, a non-profit organization in the Dominican Republic which focuses on early childhood education, high quality primary education, and holistic youth development.

809 Project believe that one of the best ways to fight against corruption and crime is through an educated population. This is where The DREAM Project excels. The DREAM Project provides more than 670,000 hours of quality education to more than 7,000 children through 14 different programs across 27 communities in the Dominican Republic.

All profits from this event will be donated to their organization.

Dime Stop Clothing and 809 Project will be working on a limited edition collaboration T-Shirt, where all profits will also be donated to this organization.

Let's help them change the country one life at a time and have blast with some of the dopest local artists the underground NYC scene has to offer.
